Appetite for Art 2017

Submission Guidelines

Artists resident in the Sooke Region may submit up to three pieces for consideration. The artwork does not need to have a food theme. Accepted mediums include 2D, 3D, fibre, glass, ceramic and photography. One image per each 2D, and two images for 3D (includes jewellery, glass or ceramic pieces) can be submitted, with a minimum resolution of 1500 pixels on one side. Work must be original to the artist, and complete at the time of submission.

There is no fee for submission. Accepted artwork will be subject to a $10 hanging fee per piece, payable upon delivery of the artwork.

All work exhibited must be available for sale. A 20% commission fee will be collected on all sales.

PLEASE NOTE: While there is no restriction on price, keep in mind that the majority of sales  at this event are typically under $1000. Please also factor in the cost of materials, framing, hanging, and commission when pricing your piece.

Show dates: Thursday March 9, 7 - 9pm | Friday March 10, noon - 9pm
Art Pick-up: Saturday March 11, 9 - 11am

About Appetite for Art

A feast for the senses! Appetite for Art is a joint community collaboration showcasing the artwork of Sooke Region artists which serve as inspiration for a series of dishes created by local food providers. Proceeds from the show go toward the Sooke Fine Arts Youth Scholarship fund and the Sooke Food Bank. Click here for footage of the 2014 show, courtesy of Ricki Normandin.

The grand opening takes place March 9th 2017 at the Prestige Oceanfront Resort in Sooke at 7pm. Admission to the evening event is $20 per person, which includes unlimited appetizers. A cash bar is also on site. All artwork will be for sale. Artists that wish to be on hand to discuss their inspiration, processes and techniques with art patrons receive a 50% discount on admission.

Artwork will remain on display and open to the public through Friday, March 10th from noon - 8pm (admission by donation, free for artists).

This is an excellent opportunity to highlight the fabulous talents of Sooke region artists - with a unique flavour! Accepted artwork will serve as the basis for a series of complimentary appetizers created by a team of local culinary artists, to be displayed alongside the companion piece.
